Caring Attorneys Skilled In Restraining and Abuse Prevention Orders
At Davis & Davis, P.C., we are passionate about the safety and well-being of our clients and their families in Massachusetts. We are strong and caring advocates for those who are in danger of physical, emotional, sexual and verbal abuse.
As part of our family violence prevention services, we help individuals seek abuse prevention orders (also called “209A protective orders” or “restraining orders”) in Middlesex County and the surrounding areas.
What Does An Abuse Prevention Order Do?
An abuse prevention order is granted by the court. It can be obtained against almost any family member or intimate acquaintance, including:
- A current or former spouse
- A current or former member of your household
- A relative by blood or by marriage
- A current or former boyfriend or girlfriend
Depending on your specific situation, you may request that the court order:
- The abuser to stop visiting or contacting you
- The abuser to avoid any contact with the children
- The abuser to stay away from your home or work
- You to receive temporary custody of the children
- Your address to be impounded to keep the abuser from finding where you live
Even if the other person has not actually touched you, you may be able to request an abuse prevention order. All it takes is for the person to create a reasonable fear of imminent harm. You do not have to wait for him or her to actually injure you or your children.
